Currently "use Tor" means use proxy=127.0.0.1:9050 but sometimes Tor proxies use other ports (Tor Browser uses 9150) and also users may want to just use a local SOCKS proxy that isn't Tor on a custom port. There is currently no way to do that.

There is now code to set a custom Tor port on the dev branch. Still untested.

Do we need to support a proxy running on something other than 127.0.0.1 ?

Custom Tor port was released as part of 1.3.1, closing this. Will create another issue for using a proxy that isn't on localhost
