Even though HUSH can be considered as a most privacy respected anonymous cryptocoin and messenger available on the market, all users have to follow a few steps to prevent the potential de-anonymization by blockchain analysis companies, government, militaries, advertisers and their like.

This page is devided into various paragraphs that will help you to understand on a basic level what hardware you should use, what operating system to install, what OPSEC measures to follow and best practices to stay anonymous on the Internet and use HUSH safely.

First, we do not recommend to use smartphones because of the WiFi triangulation (exact positioning based on a signal strength of the WiFi routers located nearby) and WiFi scanning, in Apple and Google Android (not the same as android or custom ROMs) there is no way to disable it.

IP tracking with an e-mail address or credit card information that can be mandatory to provide during the set up of a new device, Google scans every e-mail with a user's gmail account, just like the Internet activity by using Chrome that cannot be removed; the government tracking via cell carrier which is not possible to avoid.

In case using phone is required we can recommend either of possible solutions: install a custom ROM (so called de-googling) such as LineageOS, GrapheneOS, CalyxOS or Replicant and then install F-Droid which is the open-source alternative with free-as-freedom applications in it only.

Another way is to install linux on a device is to use Ubuntu Touch or to buy a PinePhone with linux pre-installed; purchase a burner phone or a no smartphone can be helpful too. To browse the Internet safely please set up your own VPN/VPS server with OpenVPN or WireGuard, or/and use Tor.

Although NVIDIA starts publishing GPU hardware, e.g. Nouveau, it is still not recommended to use NVIDIA. Every modern Intel CPU starting from 2008-2013 has Intel ME that most likely has a backdoor and ability to access the machine, the same applies to AMD, but AMD can be less ugly.

There are two ways to mitigate this, first is to disable Intel ME or buy products from ThinkPenguin but it is not a 100% solution still yet; purchase an ARM based computer such as a Raspberry Pi or Pinebook Pro, however both are not designed for high productive tasks.

HUSH supports Debian/Ubuntu based linux distros, we also have an AUR for Arch users. HUSH will no longer support Windows/Mac users because of their privacy nightmare features. Please consider installing Qubes OS or Whonix, or creating a bootable Tails USB, or Ubuntu with VPN/VPS.

Software you might need for every-day use: Tor Browser if you're not using Qubes/Tails, LibreWolf, KeePassXC, Thunderbird, Nextcloud, FreeOTP/PASS and surely SilentDragonLite with HushChat built-in.

Do not use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google services, Instagram, or any other social media, with the exception of some FOSS alternatives such as Mastodon.

Avoid posting your personal information, photos, how much you own etc. Keep your profile separate to the one you're using for the normal life and do not connect them together, the better practice is not having any personal accounts at all; use different usernames for each account or platform even if the one you're using is not connected to the real you.

Once the hardware and OS recommendations are fulfilled there is something all new HUSHers should know: never make your zaddr address/txid public, use one zaddr per task, sending your zaddr address have to be only to those who you expect the payment from, generate a new address every time you need to accept HUSH, never buy HUSH from CEX, follow F.A.Q to know how to buy crypto anonymously.

If you're a solo-miner, please use a taddr address, then send HUSH to a zaddr, in the case you're mining HUSH with pools, use those which do not publish your zaddr address, we support LuckPool as they follow all needed precautions.
