matrix-howto

Matrix-is-real

This howto will help you start using Matrix. I will take you thru the process to download the client, how to setup your account, and then teach you how to use the Matrix. Here is a small video explaining what Matrix is.

Also, if you're not sure why you should be using Signal anymore, please just scroll to the video at the bottom of this page.

Download a client

There are a couple of different clients out there, but most use Element, which was created by the same people who created Matrix.

If you do not want to put it on a phone, then just use the Element web client or download the desktop client for your operating system.

On Android, I suggest you NOT install from the G00g Play "Toy" Store and do the following instead:

  1. Install F-Droid store, which you can do with this QR.

download-fdroid-qr-code

  1. Open F-Droid and search for Element.

  2. Install Element and go to the next section.

On iOS (Apple), install Element app from their store.

Creating a Matrix Account

Now one of the major advantages to Matrix is that it is decentralized and federated. What this means is that each Matrix server talks to each other and that a user with an account on one server is able to communicate with other users on different servers. Here is a small video explaining it. Feel free to read up on more of that if you'd like, but it is outside of scope here.

First: Choose the server you want

The Matrix server I use is hosted by PrivacyTools, and you can use this server if you want to by visiting here. Again, the awesome thing about Matrix is that you can create an account on any server (and can even host your own server if you want to).

Here is a small list of some different servers and you can choose what you want.

And yet another list for you to choose from.

** I read about this here and wanted to share:
Using matrix.org as your homeserver is not recommended by the vast majority of [Matrix] users as they selectively apply their rules, are uncooperative with other homeservers, and have previously mass-banned rooms for no reason. Numerous popular rooms will not be accessible if you use matrix.org as your homeserver**

Second: Create the account

  • Here you will substitute which Matrix server you chose and follow along with these instructions.

Depending upon what you are using, please refer to these clearly written tutorials with screenshots written by the Monero Core Team. I believe their server is public, so you are free to use their server if you wanted to.

Now how do I use Matrix?

you-can-do-it

Now you just have to familiarize yourself with this new software. You will be able to join any Matrix chatroom on any server, so there are a ton out there. Do not get overwhelmed & I'm going to include some other tutorials below to help you get familiar with Element.

  1. Check under the section titled "Getting Connected" here to learn more about how to join rooms.

  2. I will have to add more but this is the first draft...

Hush has a Matrix room

Trust in Hush

Feel free to join the Hush puppies on Matrix. Our channel is #hush:privacytools.io, so come on down!

That wraps it up!

And if you are wondering "Why not Signal?", then you can learn more about their SurveillenceCoin/shitcoin called MobileCoin and why you do not want it in your life in this recent video here from The Hated One. Signal can not be trusted anymore...

And here's a Quote from the The MobileCoin Foundation website:

At MobileCoin, we believe governments have a legitimate interest in regulating the economic lives of their citizens.

I don't want that in my life. Do you want that in yours?
